Thwart those Internet Hijackers with Some Simple Solutions

from:

One of the largest threats on the web today is hijacking and/or hacking. It can be by the way of obnoxious assaults of pop-ups after you misspelled a web address or a key code that takes over your browser fully. There is a good probability that everyone who has or will surf the net will be attacked at some point. But it possible to thwart the hijackers attack and keep them out of you machine. It is even possible to avoid them all together. It is just a matter of common sense. Most hijacking tools are simply an external code that is put into your computer so the hijacker can control it. It can change your browser settings and add unknown sites into your favorites. It can keep you from visiting sites you want to go on and force you to unknown local. Your registry settings will be altered to keep you from being able to delete the problem. No matter how many times you change your settings or delete the files the minute you have to re-start your computer they are right back again. They hide files in strange places that regenerate themselves.

Once you have been hijacked and you know something is wrong, it may be too late to go look for something to get rid of it on the net. The program may stop the ability to log onto sites for anti-spyware or anti-virus. They may even disable the anti-virus protection you already have installed. Many hijackers take full advantage of the Internet Explorer’s instant Active X ability. It can run it straight off the web page. These programs will sometimes ask permission to download a program via a pop-up and some will just be ran automatically upon entering a site. If they get installed you can expect your setting to be changed. Other hijacker programs use security holes to enter your computer. They will come through an open port and install them selves silently with out you even knowing. These types of programs can be easily launched from pop-up windows that you never intended to see.

Use common sense when surfing the net. Don’t go on sites that cannot be trusted or download from unreliable sources. This will keep you away from the type of sites that can contain malicious software. If you want to be sure a program that you like is legitimate type it into your browser and see what the search engine says. If you see the program available on a more secure site go there. The other site might be offering the software for free as a lour to get you to download a malicious program. You can also look to see if people have posted any complaints before downloading. They have been infected and are warning others. Check into what you are going to put on your computer before putting it on there. Make sure your Internet Explorer settings are set to at least medium. This will help keep you on safe sites, but still let you surf the net. You can even try a different browser if the one you have is not ideal for safety.

Use and update an anti-virus program regularly to ensure you are properly protected. Make sure your firewall is up all the time to keep others from being able to connect to you while online. This is especially important for those users who are always connected to the Internet. Make sure you know how your anti-virus works. You will need to be aware if your program has built in hijacker tools. If it does, you will want to know if stops these before they can download or do you need to run a scan every time you use the Internet. If your anti-virus does not have this type of protection make sure you still do your updates but also invest in an anti-spyware and anti-hijacking program. You will also want to load an anti-hijacking tool kit onto your PC prior to being infected. Many hijacking programs will make it almost impossible to get one after. It is better to be prepared for an attack then be a sitting duck. If you play it safe then you should be less likely to have to deal with Internet hijacking.
